Fi360May 21, 2019
Fi360, the nation’s leading provider of fiduciary-related education and technology, has introduced a new certificate training course for public-sector retirement plans, enabling advisors, plan sponsors and other key constituents in the 403(b) and 457(b) space to use fiduciary principles and practices to create better outcomes for participants. The Essentials of Public Education, Nonprofit and Government Retirement Plans training course is available now and highlights best practices for managing and providing advisory services to 403(b) and 457(b) plans.
Fi360’s program was developed with input from major market participants, including investment providers, advisory firms, third-party administrators and major industry influencers. It takes a comprehensive look at these plans by focusing on six key learning objectives:
- Summarize key aspects of 403(b), 457(b) and 401(k) plans
- Identify associated laws, oversight entities and potential market-segment opportunities
- Improve understanding of plan administrative and operational details
- Examine key stakeholder roles and responsibilities in managing 403(b) and 457(b) plans
- Enhance understanding of governance and fiduciary oversight practices
- Increase understanding of plan fees and expenses
Michael Muirhead, Fi360’s Senior Vice President of Practice Management, says the firm decided to offer this type of training to address a growing trend among retirement advisors. “AIF® designees and advisors working in the corporate 401(k) space are seeking to grow their businesses and they view 403(b) and 457(b) plans as an area where they may be able to leverage the Prudent Practices® and their unique fiduciary skills to accelerate their growth,” he says.
The Essentials of Public Education, Nonprofit and Government Retirement Plans training course is not just for advisors. Fi360 is encouraging participation by plan stakeholders, including: board members, trustees, commissioners, human resources professionals and administrative staff.
“The training course fits Fi360’s world view of enabling advisors and their clients to use fiduciary principles and practices to create better business outcomes and reduce overall risk,” notes Fi360 CEO Bill Mueller. “403(b) and 457(b) plans have some key differences from 401(k) plans. Those looking to operate within the nonprofit and public-sector retirement space are seeking guidance related to the unique plan features, investment requirements and technology to drive their ultimate success.”
The training course debuted at Fi360’s annual conference in Nashville, Tenn., in early April. Starting this month, this same course will be offered nationwide through an online self-paced course as well as via private training classes. Successful completion of the course and online assessment will result in a certificate plus CE credit for the AIF®, CFP® and PPC® designations.
